The Official Rules
1. The first rule of Ruggis is you do not talk about Ruggis.
2. The second rule of Ruggus is you do not talk about Ruggis.
3. The third rule of Ruggis is you do not talk about Ruggis.
4. The playing pitch should be 18 metres wide and 36 metres long, with run-up areas at either end at your discretion.
5. You must kick an inflated rugby ball from behind your goal line and will score two points if the ball passes the opponents goal line between the posts if it hasn't already been caught or carried over the line by your opponent. If the opponent catches the ball before it bounces within the playing area as defined by the marker posts then the opponent will earn one point. If the ball goes wide of the marker posts then neither player scores a point.
6. The scoring before a beverage and change of ends runs to the first player to 15 points (or 16 if they are on 14 points and then kick a ball over - referred to as a 'bonus' ball), then 30 points, then 40 and finally to 50, a la tennis.
7. The first player to reach 50 points in a match wins the game.
8. The initial choice of kick-off ends is chosen by the player that lost the previous match, otherwise a coin toss or thumb-war will suffice.
9. The full one litre of official Ruggis beverage should be consumed before leaving the pitch at the end of the game. Click here for the official recipe.
10. A match will continue as long as it has to.
